The various districts and Parishes of Northumberland have undergone many boundary and indeed country changes over the turbulent years of its history.

It is worth pointing out that although Berwick is in Northumberland, England. Berwickshire is in fact in Scotland! And North Berwick is not in Berwickshire but in East Lothian, Scotland.

However confusing this may be, do not worry, we offer research for all Scotland and Northumberland. Remember also that when the 1841 census was taken, much of what is now Northumberland was then Durham. Just to add to this confusion, Berwick Upon Tweed is no longer at war with Russia! But that is another story.
